AIB Advantage

If you are aged 60 or over and have a personal current account in AIB, you are eligible to apply for AIB Advantage.

How do I apply?

Simply call in to any AIB branch and inform us that you are eligible to apply for the AIB Advantage benefits or alternatively, you can advise your branch in writing.

As an AIB Advantage customer, you can enjoy 'Banking Free of Maintenance and Transaction Fees' on your personal current accounts*.

You are also eligible to avail of additional benefits on the following transactions, undertaken at an AIB branch, free from service/commission charges:

  • Duplicate Statements and Duplicate Certificates of Interest
  • Purchase and sale of foreign currency notes**
  • Purchase of foreign currency cheques and Euro international cheques**
  • Sale of domestic Euro, international Euro and foreign currency bank drafts**
  • 20% reduction in commission charges for share dealing conducted at an AIB branch, above the minimum charge of EUR100 (excludes Online Share Dealing) ***.

To avail of these additional benefits you must advise staff in the branch at the time of each transaction that you are an AIB Advantage customer. The additional financial benefits are only available on face to face transactions undertaken at the branch and cannot be applied for in any transactions undertaken at ATM, AIB Self-Service Banking or through any other electronic means.

* Any customer under 60 years of age will only be entitled to 'Banking Free of Maintenance and Transaction Fees' on joint personal account(s) held with a customer aged 60 or over and not on any account(s) held in their sole name.

Goverment Charges
There are certain Government charges which the Bank are obliged to collect from you. Government charges are debited from your account even if you qualify for maintenance and transaction free banking. Under current legislation, the following Government charges apply:

Cheques: €0.50 stamp duty per cheque. Medallion Stamp Duty for cheque books ordered on or after 1st January 2009 is calculated as each cheque is presented and paid on your account and applied quarterly in arrears on the last business day of March, June, September and December.

ATM Cards: €2.50 per annum per card.

Debit Cards: €2.50 per annum per card applies where the card is used for either an ATM/In Branch or Point of Sale transaction and €5 per annum per card applies where the card is used for both.

  • AIB Internet Banking - offers you quick and easy access to a range of banking services and products. You can access your account at any time that suits you, check your balance, pay your bills, transfer money and much more.
  • We provide a range of savings options, including Lump Sum and Regular Savings plans available online, over the phone and in branch.
  • Insurance Products - Home & Health Insurance are available.
  • Mobile Top-up - Available by text, ATM or online. To top-up by text or online you must be a registered user of AIB Phone & Internet banking. To top-up by ATM you must have an AIB Banklink or Debit card. Please check online for promotional top-up offers.
